Without polar satellites, Sandy forecasts would show harmless storm

The use of polar-orbiting satellites to forecast allowed forecasters to accurately predict the pattern of Hurricane Sandy, the European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasting said. Without such a system, forecasts would have shown the storm staying harmless at sea, The Washington Post reports.
