The state was to take public comment on the new route by project owner TransCanada in Albion, Neb., at the lone public hearing on the state's draft environmental review. The review found the new alignment avoids much, but not all of the Sandhills region, and lays out other measures that the company would include to protect groundwater and surface water.
A final recommendation from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality is expected by the end of the month and will start a 30-day review period by Gov. Dave Heineman.
