Regulator renews fishing access to New England waters

After pressure from commercial fishing interests, the New England Fishery Management Council reopened 5,000 square miles of waters to new commercial fishing applications. The "groundfish closed areas" were shut down for fishing in the 1990s to preserve seafloor habitats, The New York Times reports.
