The department planned to complete the rule by this month, but announced last week it would wait until next year because of the work to consider more than 170,000 comments submitted in response to the proposal.
"The strong and efficient track record of states to regulate oil and natural gas production, as well as the rule’s significant and destructive impacts on our states, should not be ignored, and needs to be taken into serious consideration," Jindal and Pruitt said in a letter.
