Turkish and regional media sources are trying to untangle statements by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which Erdogan may or may not have committed to abandoning Ankara's aspirations to join the European Union in favor of joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, or not. Typical of the coverage are the attempts by EurActiv to understand the implications of Erdogan claiming he had been misinterpreted, and reconciling his claims with his clear criticism of "unforgivable" European treatment of Turkey.
