Security around Egyptian opposition leaders has been increased after several hard-line clerics called for them to be murdered in response to opposition criticism of the ruling Muslim Brotherhood-linked government. The fatwas were condemned by the government and by top Egyptian religious authorities, according to AFP. Egypt has been roiled by opposition street riots, and the assassination of an opposition leader in the current climate would risk severe and long-term destabilization.
