Lt. Col. Onyema Nwachukwu said the attack happened Tuesday in Bayelsa state in the Niger Delta. Nwachukwu said the soldiers were guarding a vessel operated by Sterling Global Oil Resources Ltd., a venture of an India-based company called the Sandesara Group.
Nwachukwu said additional patrol boats had arrived to the area. He said he did not know if any civilians were injured in the attack.
